The business they came for.
He started when vaping was new and built it into a small empire: seven retail vape shops across Washington and Idaho, a vape wholesale distributor, and an e-liquid manufacturing lab of his own. Real stores, real payroll, real products, real customers — everything legal, everything above board. Damn close to a decade of it.
Then the squeeze began. The major platforms blacklisted him. Delisted. Shadowbanned. Accounts canceled, restricted, frozen. Stripe and Braintree cut off his merchant processing. He couldn't buy advertising or SEO. Flavor bans arrived, then product bans, then over-taxation and constantly shifting age rules. Age-gate verification was confusing by design; internet sale restrictions made legal online commerce nearly impossible. Corporate bias at every turn, lobbyists pushing, and Washington state regulators finishing the job.
Why losing made him dangerous.
Most agencies learned "high-risk" from a slide deck. He learned it in the trenches: how risk teams think, how processors flag accounts, how platforms quietly throttle legal businesses, how regulation moves through an industry like weather. That knowledge was paid for in full — with a business, a payroll, and ten years of his life.
